फरवरी में दिल्ली में बीबीसी कार्यालय परिसर का सर्वेक्षण कर रहे आयकर विभाग की पृष्ठभूमि में यह कदम उठाया गया है. केंद्रीय प्रत्यक्ष कर बोर्ड (CBDT), जो I-T विभाग का प्रशासनिक निकाय है, ने तब कहा था कि बीबीसी समूह की विभिन्न संस्थाओं द्वारा दिखाई गई आय और लाभ भारत में उनके संचालन के पैमाने के अनुरूप नहीं थे और इसकी विदेशी संस्थाओं द्वारा कुछ रेमिटेंसेज (भारत में कमाई गई रकम दूसरे देश में भेजने पर) पर कर का भुगतान नहीं किया गया है.
